Kevin, your mention of the passion flower started my mind down the road of tropical fruits and foods. I have had shaved ice with fruit toppings on the brain ever since. A Google search reveals several descriptions of shaved ice vendors featuring traditional bean sauces as well as the more trendy fresh fruit toppings–many of them from Taiwan. It is enough to make me search for tickets right now. It looks like the Taiwanese got their taste for shaved ice from the Japanese who call it kakigori.
