“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”

— Oliver Wendell Holmes

I heard this quote today, and it immediately gave me some hope that I may be doing my students some good. I thought to myself, even if I can only make a very minor impact on my students, at least there is some sense in which it can never be reversed. &#74 They will always have to live with the knowledge that someone exists who likes the Hobbit and doesn’t own a TV. &#74 Today a student asked me, “Mr. Hake, were you ever a monk?” It was in a room with my supervisor and some other students. I got a kick out of it, and my supervisor nearly fell off her chair laughing. The student thought that I was never bothered by anything. He said I was so nice it made him mad. &#74

Well, I hope you are all doing well.
