Blue-winged Kookaburra

“A species of kingfisher, the blue-winged kookaburra delivers a shrieking cackle reminiscent of manic laughter; two types of kookaburras inhabit Australia.”

—From the National Geographic book Wild Shores of Australia, 1996

I enjoyed this photo today and found a copy of the shrieking cackle for everyone to hear. Elizabeth and I saw a kookaburra at the Franklin Zoo near Boston. I think it was the other type: tan, brown, white and black. They are neat birds. Remember the Kookaburra Song?

Kookaburra Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree

Merry merry king of the bush is he

Laugh Kookaburra, laugh Kookaburra

Gay your life must be

Okay, I better get back to work and make good use of this second snow day. &#74
